Welcome Message from the Congress PresidentWe would like to hold the 75th General Meeting of JSGS in Wakayama city on July 2, 3, and 4, 2020. 2020 is a year of memorable Tokyo Olympic, and it is our great honor to welcome all of the JSGS members and foreign guests to Wakayama city. Wakayama Medical University (WMU) has been found in February 1945 during the 2nd World War, and our University will have a 75th anniversary in 2020, and this is a first opportunity to hold the JSGS annual meeting in Wakayama city. The attending members might have some trouble for traveling and accommodation in Wakayama city, however we would like to do our best for hosting all of the JSGS members. We would expect that a lot of members participate to the 75th annual meeting of JSGS in Wakayama city. Wakayama is a prefecture that Seisyu Hanaoka, pioneer of modern surgery in Japan, had performed a breast cancer surgery first in the world under general anesthesia using Mandarage, and the Founding philosophy of WMU has assumed the spirits of Seisyu. Indeed, the Mandarage is a motif of the emblem of WMU. The main theme of 75th annual meeting of JSGS is; Katsubutsu Kyuri, Production of evidences by integration of Art and Science in the surgical field. Katsubutsu Kyuri is a most important philosophy of Seisyu, and the meaning is that observing the patients extensively results understanding the patients, and producing the medical evidence. The excellent surgical procedures based on the solid evidence have real benefits for patients. To produce surgical evidence, integration of excellent surgical procedures (Art) and clinical research with high quality (Science). The Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery (JSGS) has three major missions; (1) Training of young surgeons to be certificated experts, (2) Development of new surgical techniques, and (3) Producing surgical evidences. Achieving three missions, the Japanese surgeons should become a real leader and contribute to the world health, therefore I selected Katsubutus Kyuri as the main theme of the 75th JSGS meeting. I sincerely hope that a lot of surgeons would participate the 75th meeting and discuss to the direction of future surgical science. We are looking forward to seeing you in Wakayama. President of the 75th General Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery Hiroki Yamaue
