The developments of textile materials, equipment and processes have extensively impacted the textile industry worldwide. Innovations from fibre to fashion in textile not only provide opportunities for development of traditional textiles, but also expand the industry into non-conventional markets such as technical textiles and composites with value-added elements. While conventional textiles present consistent growth in emerging economies, textiles are a prime candidate for medical, sports, aerospace, automotive and geotextiles applications. The 89th Textile Institute World Conference 2014 will specifically focus on textile innovation from fibre to fashion in both research and industrial applications.

TIWC 2014 is a platform that gathers researchers, academics and the industries related to the areas of textiles, clothing and footwear. The conference is organised approximately every one and a half years by The Textile Institute, in various locations around the world such as in Sri Lanka (TIWC 2007), Hong Kong (TIWC 2008), England (TIWC 2010) and Malaysia (2012). The Textile Institute (TI) collaborates with various organisations from different countries to host the conference. TIWC 2014 will be hosted by Wuhan Textile University, China. The conference will take place from 2nd to 6th November at the Lake View Garden Hotel, Wuhan, China.

The conference aims to provide a significant platform for industry and researchers around the world to meet, discuss, share and disseminate findings for future collaborations. Delegates will benefit from a wide range of plenary speakers, invited speakers and other local and international presenters, along with poster sessions. It is anticipated that the conference will become a catalyst for textile innovations from fibre to fashion and enterprising spirits among the participants.

Meanwhile, the conference will provide an opportunity for participants to travel to the city of Great Wuhan. Wuhan is one of the best connected cities in Central China with convenient airlines and train services. With the Yangtze River passing through, the city has been isolated into three towns, namely Hankou, Wuchang and Hanyang. There are 166 different lakes in the city including the most famous East Lake. Wuhan is the main industrial and culture centre of central China. Attractions include the Yellow Crane Tower, East Lake, Yangtze River Bridges, Chuhehan Street, Hubei Provincial Museum, National Stone Museum which will make your stay in Wuhan more memorable. One may also cruise along the Yangtze River to the famous Three Gorges in Yichang, China, to experience the water and mountains and culture of the Yangtze River.

The Textile Institute (TI) is the only international organisation for textiles, clothing and footwear industries, which was founded in 1910, legally constituted by a Royal Charter and granted in Britain in 1925. Its members consist of Individuals and Corporate Members in up to 80 countries and the membership covers all sectors and all disciplines in textiles, clothing and footwear. The main objective of its establishment is to facilitate learning, to recognise achievement, to reward excellence and to disseminate information.

Founded in 1958, Wuhan Textile University (WTU) has a student population of around 25,000, and has extensive research and education collaborations with higher education institutions and enterprises in Australia, Britain, Canada, the Czech Republic, France, India, Japan, Pakistan, Russia, Switzerland, the United States and Ukraine.
